Larry Stephen Selph

August 3, 1952 ~ June 13, 2019 (age 66)

Larry Stephen Selph, recently of St. Paul’s, N.C., formerly of Quitman, Georgia passed peacefully away on June 13. 2019 at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC after a long illness.
Larry, who in early life went by Steve, was born in Tifton, GA. on August 3, 1952 to Rudolph Chares Selph and Doris Latrell Varnadoe Selph. A very small full-term baby born at 2 pounds and 3 ounces, Larry learned early to be a fighter. Larry was welcomed into the family by his older brother Michael David Selph (St. Paul’s N.C.) and was joined a short while later by a younger sister, Mildred Elizabeth (Miki) of Chesapeake, VA. Paternal grandparents (deceased) were Lester Lyman Selph and Mary Elizabeth (Lawson). Maternal grandparents (deceased) were Robert Julian Varnadoe and Jessie Louise Mildred (Hudson) Varnadoe.

The family moved to St Petersburg, Florida in 1956 where Larry attended George M. Lynch Elementary, Meadowlawn Junior High and Northeast High School. In 1979 Larry married Lisa Ann Morris and welcomed their daughter Crystal JeanAnn (St. Paul’s, N.C.) in October of 1981. Larry loved to work with his hands especially around automobiles. He had an intense love of dogs and owned one all his life. Larry is survived by his daughter Crystal Jean Ann Selph Williams, her husband Oscar and their children: Carina, Morris, Oscar and Sandra. Larry’s brother, Michael David Selph and his children, Michael. Christopher and Dawn. He is also survived by his sister, Miki (Mildred Elizabeth) Miller, her husband Paul and their children Amy and Greg. He had several Grand Nieces and Nephews. Having been a long-distance truck driver for several years Larry is also survived by many of his coworkers and friends.

A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held Saturday, July 20 , 2019 at 6:00 P.M. The celebration will be held at 2214 Balance Farm Road, St. Pauls, N.C. The family wishes to thank the Nurses and Doctors of Southeastern Regional Medical Center and Duke University Hospital for their compassionate care for Larry. We will forever be grateful to Reverend Cathy Fanslau of Raleigh for her Pastoral Care for Larry and his family. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Mutts With A Mission, a nonprofit organization that rescues shelter dogs and trains them to become service and therapy dogs for Military Veterans with PTSD.
