Mr. Roger Jones was born June 5, 1943 in Wake County to the late Minor and Josephine Humphrey-Jones. As a lifelong resident of North Carolina Roger was raised in the city of Raleigh, and Garner. He also was educated in the Wake County School System, where he graduated from Garner High School.
Roger was employed by Raleigh Parks and Recreation as a trained lifeguard. Most people remembered him either teaching them to swim, or people that he had once saved while working. Roger was always willing to help, he worked in a few restaurants, and would often volunteer at different businesses such as Nicholson’s Barber Shop. Roger was a firm believer in God, and was a longtime member of Provenance Holiness Church. Besides all the many things that he has mastered, Roger was a mathematician, expert at pool, and a true die hard NC State fan. He loved to pass on the wisdom that he had gained throughout life by giving them to family and friends in the form of riddles. He was more than just a father, grandfather, uncle, or friend. He was a man with a tough exterior but a soft gentle beautiful heart, and a solid man who always stood on his word.
Roger leaves to cherish his memories two sons; Darren Byrd (Cathy), and Nathan Jones of Raleigh, two daughters; Virpi A. Jones of Wendell, and Tina R. Brodie of Raleigh, 8 grandchildren; Tony (Kytauna), Ashlee, Andrea, Andre, Jasmine, Quentin, Jalisa, and Nation; 7 great-grandchildren, one brother and best friend; Milton Jones (Lottie), one sister; Alicia Jones-Chisolm (Roosevelt), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by both of his parents Minor and Josephine Humphrey-Jones, one daughter, Felicia Jones, and one brother; Harrell Jones.
